If you are a small business owner, digital marketing can be overwhelming. There is so much information out there that it’s difficult to know which strategies will work for your particular needs.
But don’t worry – I’ve got you covered! This article will share my 7 digital marketing tips for small businesses on how to reach new customers and generate more revenue.
Here are my 7 digital marketing tips for small businesses:
1. Create a blog and publish content regularly
2. Use social media to attract an audience
3. Run a Google Ads Campaign for your small business
4. Set Up a Google My Business Listing and Get Customer Reviews
5. Don’t Forget About Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
6. Utilise Email Marketing
7. Make Sure Your Website is User- and Mobile-Friendly
1. Create a blog and publish content regularly
One of my favourite digital marketing tips for small businesses just starting is to start blogging as soon as possible. Starting a blog provides value to searchers looking for information about your business. It allows you to build trust among potential customers who may not be familiar with your company yet. Share valuable tips and insights to establish yourself as an authority in your industry.
2. Use social media to attract an audience
Another digital marketing tip I recommend for small businesses looking to grow their reach to be active on social media. First, find the social media platform that is most relevant to your business and where your customers are active.
If you are offering B2B services or products, LinkedIn can be a good choice. On the other hand, Facebook or Instagram might be better choices for B2C.
3. Run a Google Ads Campaign for Your Small Business
This digital marketing tip is a little more technical than the others on this list. Still, it can be tremendously effective for small businesses that are looking to increase their online visibility. Google Ads offers targeting options based on the location, age and gender of your potential customers, as well as interests they may have in certain topics or products related to what you’re selling.
And since these ads appear when people search using keywords relevant to your company’s business model (ex: “near me,” “auto parts”), all those eyeballs will see your brand when they’re ready to make a purchase decision! But, of course, running such an ad campaign requires some time and resources upfront – so if you’re not willing or able to dedicate yourself fully, then try some other digital marketing strategies on the list instead.

4. Set Up a Google My Business Listing and Get Customer Reviews
This is a good time to mention that having an online presence on Google – in the form of a Google My Business listing. Google has become everyone’s favourite search engine these days (in fact, Google’s market share is over 90%!), so this digital marketing strategy is essential.
The first step would be setting up your Google My Business Listing with all the pertinent business information: address, phone number(s), hours of operation if applicable; link to your company’s homepage or any subpages related to what you do best; links to any external websites where customers can find out about products and services.
Next, I recommend you review your customer reviews and make sure to respond accordingly. Remember: what people write in a public forum reflects the kind of service they received and how well (or poorly) the business deals with complaints and problems.
Ask actively for feedback or positive testimonials from happy clients; these can be used later as content marketing materials.
5. Don’t Forget About Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
When it comes to improving rankings in search engine results pages, this one’s a no-brainer. It should be your priority if you’re looking to rank higher for more competitive keywords (e.g., “financial advisor” or “online store”).
And the great news is that there are many affordable ways of getting high-quality organic traffic without breaking the bank. One way: Link building through content creation. This can be done by producing blog posts with helpful information for your target customer.
Just do keyword research, so you know which words to include in your content, and then build links through social media by sharing those pieces of digital content you created.
SEO is a long-term strategy for generating traffic or leads to grow your business. Consider creating an Inbound marketing strategy as well.

6. Utilise Email Marketing
Email marketing is still a very effective digital marketing strategy. It provides a way for small businesses to reach their target audience and increase conversions with personalized messages and offers.
It’s important to make sure that emails are delivered correctly, so recipients do not mark them as spam or delete them.
The best way to do this is to make sure that you have the correct email platform and use a professional-looking template.

7. Make Sure Your Website is User- and Mobile-Friendly
As the digital world continues to evolve, so do people’s browsing habits. The most important thing a small business can do is make sure its website is mobile and user-friendly.
Be sure to keep your website up-to-date and check it often for errors so that you can fix them.
This might sound like common sense, but many small businesses still neglect basic web maintenance tasks such as checking for broken links or checking for malware.
